MUSEUM OF ART & CINEMA

In collaboration with: Iñigo Garcia, Andrea Manzur & Sofia Basañez

The Museum of Art and Cinema (dedicated to the history, theory and works of plastic and cinematographic art in mexico) has a total of 6 floors with a mixed program as well as 3 levels of parking with 206 spaces.

The program includes exhibition areas, interactive rooms, projection rooms, a huge screening room, outdoor art exhibitions on green terraces, a restaurant, a cafe, stores and a level dedicated to offices, meeting rooms, storage spaces and all of the spaces necesary to ensure smooth functioning for the museum.

The museum has a complex architecture, in part because of the irregular triangular shape of the lot, but also because of the use of complicated structural elements, especially the Vierendeel beam which is used to hold a huge section of the building that is flown over the entrance. The architecture, however, is completely honest, with a visible exo-structure that comes outside of the building to become its main element. The installations, materials and finishes are all apparent and the museum has open floors which are open to the exterior.
