EARTH + LIGHT PAVILION
The proposal is located in Alameda Central, a public urban park at the heart of one of the most highly populated cities in the world, Mexico City. With a dangerously high contamination index and a continously increasing amount of urban developmend and unsustainable construction (concrete being the main building material) the city contributes to the ongoing problem of unsustainability and CO2 emissions. The Earth + Light Pavilion is ment to ba a bacon of hope which presents a sustainable alternative to the current destructive construction industry and to inspire visitors to raise their voice and advocate for change within it.
The goal of the pavilion is to raise awareness to the problems as well as to propose a solution: rammed earth. It is meant to showcase the benefits and versatility of this ancestral construction method by being a demonstration of the diverse techniques and solutions that can be accomplished with it using modern technology.

The project houses an informative exhibition on rammed earth, while also allowing visitors to learn through their senses. Visiting the pavilion is an interactive experience that encourages connection to the earth that makes up its walls, accompanied by natural light that seeps in from overhead openings. Part of the experience are the "DIY" earth blocks, which can be made in the station found on the outside of the pavilion using mallets, wooden molds and natural pigments. Visitors then have the opportunity to place their blocks on one of two sections, strangers working together to create walls out of earth, and in that process learning how simple it is to create positive change in our world through sustainable construction.
